Nicholas Mulder teaches modern history at Cornell University. He specializes in 19th and 20th century political and economic history. His work has appeared in the Guardian, Foreign Policy, The Nation, New Left, and Dissent. He is the author of The Economic Weapon: The Rise of Sanctions as a Tool of Modern War (Yale University Press), which won the 2023 Stuart L. Bernath Book Prize from the Society of Historians of American Foreign Relations.
